Regressive sentimentalism.

I adopted 5 baby barn mice in 1999. I coddled and cosseted them with an eyedropper and milk, cotton swabs and a heating lamp, and tender motherly love. After 3 weeks in my homemade intensive care unit, my brothers fed them to our cat while I was away.
