Beach day part 1:

Pensacola, Florida is the home of many of my treasured childhood memories. Because of our homeschool ability to pick the books up and drive (aka roadschool) and my Dad’s full-time traveling career, we spent many lengthy trips on the tarmac. My grandparents lived near Johnson Beach, a pristine snow-white sand beach (an unrealized privilege which consequently ruined our ability to enjoy gritty dirt/sand/regular beaches).

My brothers and I certainly enjoyed when the scorching sun was the only adornment in the sky, but the best beach days were classified by a particular flag. The guardhouse rotated colored flags according to the surf activity. A purple flag meant that dangerous sealife is present (sharks or jellyfish), a blue flag meant the water conditions are mild, an orange flag meant the waves are choppy, a red flag meant dangerous surf, and two red flags meant the water is closed to the public. We jumped at the opportunities when my mom agreed to take us on stormy days – it was a gamble as to whether the guardhouse would be sporting one or two red flags.

Unbridled enthusiasm… “IT’S DANGEROUS SURFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF DAY!”

To be continued.

Hopefully you will enjoy this:

On my Psychology final (this Tuesday), I quite literally LOL'd at one question/4 multiple choice answers.

It went something like:

Q: Which of these circumstances would not be considered a risk factor for mental illness in a patient?

a) Stressful living conditions
b) Parents nearing a divorce
c) Learning Disability
d) Being homeschooled as a child

Now, the fact that answer d) was even written in a test in hopes that the question would be more difficult to answer, is mental illness.
